Saturday, June 6th, 2009, Diane Lott and Robert Pickle celebrated one of the most special occasions two people can share, their nuptials. The couples’ ceremony took place in the Storytelling Park on the campus of the International Storytelling Center (ISC).
Diane and Robert were drawn to the Mary B. Martin Storytelling Hall for a number of reasons. It provided a one of a kind location set in the heart of Historic Downtown Jonesborough, which was beautiful and promised to be memorable. Diane mentioned several times how romantic the location was. The lush landscape of the park, including the flowers in bloom, made the perfect setting for the ceremony.
Diane says, “It’s not just another convention center or club, it’s one of a kind.” The overall experience was, “wonderful,” she says.
Located in the middle of downtown Jonesborough the Center provided a lot of convenience for the couple’s guests. Wedding guests stayed in the area's bed and breakfasts with some located a couple of blocks down Main Street from ISC. Attendees enjoyed being within walking distance not only to the wedding locale, but to everything else Jonesborough has to offer, including the shops and restaurants.
Diane described Jonesborough as having a certain charm and old fashion feel, “something straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.”
Many out-of-town guests commented on the beautiful location and setting of the ceremony in the Storytelling Park with arches covered in greenery lining the aisle. The courtyard served as the entertainment area and was strung with lights and beautiful arrangements adorned every table. The reception was hosted in the parlor, which also offered a beautiful vantage point of Main Street from the outside balcony ledges lined with candles. The couple remembers their special day as a fairytale wedding straight out of a book.
Diane and Robert now reside in Telford, TN. When asked if she had any words of wisdom for others planning their wedding, Diane said, “Be patient, expect the unexpected, plan ahead as much as you can, and most of all don’t stress about it.”
